Twin Forts Trail is a very easy hiking trail in Bear Mountain State Park near New York City and meanders from the Bear Mountain Bridge to Fort Montgomery State Historic Site. Make sure to listen for songbirds and watch for wildlife! Bear Mountain also makes a great choice for winter recreation, its trails offer wonderful cross country skiing and snowshoeing. This trail is family and dog friendly, but your furry kids must be on leash.

History

During the American Revolution the area that would become Bear Mountain State Park saw several battles and skirmishes. The British viewed controlling the Hudson River as pivotal to their success.
