Syncline Loop Trail is a tough day hike in Canyonlands National Park that features incredible desert scenery. The trail loops around Upheaval Dome and gives hikers an up close look at the one mile wide and more than a thousand feet deep crater. Exactly what created Upheaval Dome is a geological debate, but most recent scientific evidence points to a meteor strike. However, other theories include an erode salt dome and volcanic activity. This trail is best started early in the morning and make sure to carry plenty of water. This hike is located in the park's Island in the Sky District. Canyonlands National Park has two campgrounds, Squaw Flat Campground in The Needles District and Willow Flat Campground in the Island in the Sky District.
