The Step House Trail in Mesa Verde National Park is a short loop hike that provides big rewards to visitors. First discovered in 1926, Step House is unique amongst Mesa Verde's cliff dwellings in that there is clear evidence that it was occupied during at least two separate periods in history. While the history is amazing, don't forget to look towards the sky for birds of prey that are often spotted soaring overhead. This trail is a great choice for families with small children or elderly visitors to the park. The Morefield Campground inside Mesa Verde is a great place to stay during a visit to the park. Campers often see wild turkeys and mule deer from their site.
