Steinke Basin Trail is an easy hiking trail in Devil's Lake State Park near Madison Wisconsin. This level trail has a little bit of everything. It leads hikers through grassy areas, a mixed hardwood forest, across streams and past an area that was once a shallow glacial lake-bed. This trail is mountain biker friendly and in the winter this trail is groomed for cross-country skiing. This hike is dog friendly, so long as your furry friend is on leash. Many of the parks trails can be combined to form longer hikes. There is camping available in Devil's Lake State Park and the park is also a great choice for winter outdoor recreation such as snowshoeing.

History

Devil's Lake State park was founded in 1911 and is Wisconsin's most visited and third oldest state park.
