The Santa Elena Canyon Trail is an easy hiking trail in Big Bend National Park, Texas. This hike is kid friendly and begins at the end of the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive. The park says "this trail leads into the stunning Santa Elena Canyon. After crossing Terlingua Creek, the trail ascends on paved steps to a vista, then descends back to the water's edge, continuing into the canyon until the canyon walls meet the water. A Big Bend classic. Trail is impassable when Terlingua Creek floods." As with all trails in Big Bend, make sure to carry plenty of water and sunscreen when hiking. There are three developed front country campgrounds in Big Bend National Park, the Chisos Basin Campground, Cottonwood Campground and the Rio Grande Village Campground.
