Painted Canyon Nature Trail is a very easy kid friendly hike in Theodore Roosevelt National Park that rewards with wonderful views. The park says "the canyon looks amazing from the rim, but wait until you experience a hike down into it! Get up close and personal with the rock layers, junipers, and wildlife. Remember, every step down means a step back up on the return." This hike is in the park's southern unit. There is camping available in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The Cottonwood Campground is in the TRNP south unit and the Juniper Campground is located in the north unit.
