The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail is a difficult hike or mountain bike ride in Cuyahoga National Park. Hikers and bikers can access the Towpath Trail via 10 different trailheads all of which have providing parking. There are primitive campsites available along the Towpath Trail for hikers looking for a little backcountry camping. They are available from Memorial Day weekend through October 31. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is very pet friendly, which is not the case for many national parks. Dogs are permitted on trails in Cuyahoga Valley, but they must be kept on leash. The Audubon Society considers Cuyahoga Valley National Park an IBA or Important Bird Area. The park offers incredible bird watching opportunities and is home to more than 200 different bird species. For those looking to stay a while, there is camping available inside and around the park.
