Nellie Lake Trail is a strenuous, but rewarding hike in the Sierra NF near Fresno California. It may be a bit long for those hiking with small children. The trail to Nellie Lake is not for the faint of heart. It climbs nearly 3,000 ft. in 5 short miles. Those that make it are rewarded with the stunning subalpine Nellie Lake. Be sure to bring your fly rod because Rainbow Trout are in the lake. If you plan on taking a dip, use caution, as the water is extremely cold. This trip can be turned into a 21-mile loop that summits Kaiser Peak. There is camping available in the Sierra National Forest.
