At more than 9 miles round trip, the Navajo Knobs Trail in Capitol Reef National Park near Salt Lake City Utah offers a chance to beat to the crowds. This hike has more than 2000 ft. of elevation gain, making it a tough trek. Also, be sure to bring your climbing shoes, excellent rock climbing opportunities are available. This trail is kid friendly, but the entire length may not be the best choice for young children. There is camping available in Capitol Reef National Park. The Fruita campground is the only developed campground in Capitol Reef, it is located near the visitor center in the Fruita Historic District. There is also no-fee camping at Cathedral and Cedar Mesa Primitive Campgrounds. These two campgrounds have pit toilets and picnic tables, but no water.
