Mt. Wittenberg Loop is a moderate hike in Point Reyes National Seashore near the San Francisco Bay area. This trail takes hikers to the highest point and features tremendous views of the Pacific Ocean and Olema Valley. Expect towering Douglas firs and mixed oak forests as well as several beautiful meadows bursting with wildflowers. This hike starts at the Bear Valley Trailhead and follow the Bear Valley Trail south for 0.3 km (0.2 mi.). Turn right onto the Mt. Wittenberg Trail and start the climb. Nearly 490 different species have been spotted in and along the national seashore. For perspective, that’s more than 50 percent of species of birds in North America. So, don't forget to bring your binoculars. There is only backcountry camping available in Point Reyes, but there are plenty of other car friendly campground in the surrounding area.
