Monument Canyon Trail is a tough hike in Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction that weaves through breathtaking scenery. The monument says from the upper access this hike starts with a "steep 600-foot descent from the plateau into Monument Canyon where you can walk beside many of the park's major rock sculptures: Independence Monument, Kissing Couple, and the Coke Ovens." Equestrians are only permitted along the lower 5 miles. There is camping available at the Saddlehorn Campground which is located near the Visitor Center, about four miles from the west entrance.
