Monarch Lakes Trail in Sequoia National Park is a tough hike, but well worth the effort in the end. The trail climbs more than 2,000 feet in just over four miles, ending at Upper and Lower Monarch Lakes which lie at the base of the 12,343 feet Sawtooth Peak. Along the way hikers are rewarded with meadows bursting with wildflowers, thick forest, stunning views of the southern Sierras and Monarch Creek Canyon. The trail follows a west facing slope, so plan on getting an early start! This hike is kid friendly, but may not be the best idea for hikers with young kids. There is camping available in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
