Military Road Trail is an easy family friendly hike in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area that gives hikers an incredible a history lesson one step at a time. This hike is located in the middle section of the park. Park Rangers say "soldiers who fought in the French and Indian War and American Revolution utilized this trail to move men and material from Elizabeth Town, NJ, to Fort John's, which was located just uphill from where the Van Campen Inn stands today.” Along the way hikers will pass by the former site of Fort Johns, an old slave cemetery and ruins of old farmsteads. For those looking for a longer adventure this hike can be extended by hiking up the Walpack Ridge Trail which leads to incredible views. This trail is dog friendly, but your pup must be on leash. There are campgrounds nearby.
