Kapalaoa Cabin via Keonehe'ehe'e Trail is a difficult hike or backpacking trip in Haleakala National Park on Maui and is a short drive from Kahului. This trail starts at the Keonehe'ehe'e Trailhead. The park says the Keonehe'ehe'e or Sliding Sands Trail leads hikers "through the colorful cinder desert leads deep into the Wilderness Area and can be a starting point for a short stroll or a 3-day backpacking trip." Haleakala National Park has two campgrounds. The Hosmer Grove Campground is located in the Haleakala cloud belt at just about 7,000 ft, which can make for chilly nights. The Kipahulu campground is located near the Kipahulu Visitor Center.
