Joseph Plumb Martin Trail is a moderate hike in Valley Forge National Historical Park near Philadelphia. This hike can be shortened to 5 miles by taking the inner loop. Overall the trail connects historic sites in the park. Make sure to pack sunscreen, there is very little shade on this hike. This trail is kid friendly and mountain bikers are permitted.
Hiking in Valley Forge National Historical Park is a walk through history. The site commemorates where George Washington and the Continental Army wintered in 1777-1778. As winter set in only one in three in Washington’s army had shoes and by the next February nearly 2,500 would die from malnutrition, disease and exposure.
