The Joe Johnson Route is a moderate hiking trail in Government Canyon State Natural Area near San Antonio, Texas. This hike is kid friendly and dog friendly, but your furry kids have to be on leash. Mountain bikers are permitted on this trail. The park says this hike "begins at the Backcountry Trailhead; leads to Zizelmann House and back. This historic 1850s route has lots to discover. Notice the change in vegetation as you hike northward. Especially challenging in the summer months, take plenty of water, wear sun protection, and pace yourself." Make to keep an eye peeled for the endangered Golden Cheeked Warbler. There is camping available in Government Canyon State Natural Area.
