This trail is dog friendly, but your furry friends must be kept on leash. The monument says "this trail follows the canyon floor and gently ascends through blue-green canyon walls. Exhibits and fossil replicas along the trail tell the story of the fossil landscape. This trail has 220 feet of mostly gradual elevation gain." Heads up for those hiking with dogs, this trail crosses more than a dozen bridges that have a rough metal surfaces that your pup may not enjoy. This trail is in the Blue Basin area where all off trail hiking is prohibited. There is camping available in John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.
