The Indian Grove Trail in City of Rocks National Reserve is wonderful hike. The trail provides hikers with impressive views of 8,867-foot Graham Peak, the highest point in the reserve. It also leads to the only designated backcountry camping area in the reserve. This hike is perfect in the fall when the aspens are changing color. Don't forget your climbing shoes! This trail is kid and dog friendly. There is camping available in City of Rocks. Don't forget about City of Rocks in the wintertime. The reserve is a great choice for winter outdoor recreation such as cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
Legend has it that Shoshone and Bannock Indians observed California Trail emigrants from this grove of aspen and fir.
