Grotto Falls is a moderate kid friendly day hike in Great Smoky Mountains National Park that leads to a beautiful waterfall. The park says the "Trillium Gap Trail meanders through an old-growth hemlock forest and actually runs behind the 25 foot high waterfall. The cool, moist environment near the falls is ideal for salamanders and summer hikers." Keep an eye on kids, several people have fallen to their deaths at the falls over the years. If solitude is what you seek, you may want to look elsewhere, this hike is extremely popular. There is plenty of camping available in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
