El Capitan and Salt Basin Overlook Trails is a strenuous hiking trail in Guadalupe Mountains National Park near El Paso, Texas. This is a tough hike with a lot of elevation gain and distance. It may not be the best choice for those hikers with small children. This hike begins at the Pine Springs Trailhead. The park says "the trail leads through Chihuahuan desert to the base of El Capitan at the southern end of the Guadalupe mountain range. Follow the El Capitan Trail and the Salt Basin Overlook Trail. Return to Pine Springs campground via the El Capitan Trail. Beyond Salt Basin Overlook, the trail continues to the historic Williams Ranch site, an additional 4.7 miles one-way. This hike is rated moderate; it is 11.3 miles round trip. Allow 6-8 hours." As with all trails in the Guadalupe Mountains, make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen. There are two developed front country campgrounds in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, the Pine Springs Campground and the Dog Canyon Campground.
