The Chihuahuan Desert Nature Trail is a very easy hiking trail in Big Bend National Park, Texas. This trail is kid friendly. This hike begins as Dugout Wells, that's about 6 miles southeast of Panther Junction. The park says "both natural and cultural history are evident at Dugout Wells. On this easy desert stroll you will see remnants of human settlement and typical Chihuahuan Desert habitat. A shady oasis with cottonwood trees and tables at Dugout Wells provides a good area for picnicking and bird watching. The Chihuahuan Desert covers about 80% of the park and surrounds the Chisos Mountains." As with all trails in Big Bend, make sure to carry plenty of water and sunscreen when hiking. There are three developed front country campgrounds in Big Bend National Park, the Chisos Basin Campground, Cottonwood Campground and the Rio Grande Village Campground.
