Checkerboard Mesa is a kid friendly route hike in Zion National Park that is sure to please people of all ages with wonderful scenery. Just past east entrance of Zion lies the Checkerboard Mesa. This seldom explored are of the park a great way to stretch your legs and explore the colorful landscape filled with hoodoos and tremendous scenery. There is not an established trail in the area so options for how far you intend to explore are completely up to you. Make sure carry plenty of water and good map on your travels. There are three campgrounds in Zion National Park. The South and Watchman Campgrounds are located in Zion Canyon. The Lava Point Campground is roughly an hours drive from Zion Canyon on the Kolob Terrace Road.
