The Cedar Ridge Trail is an easy family friendly hiking trail in Mines of Spain recreation area near Dubuque, Iowa. This trail was specifically designed with cross-country skiing in mind in addition to hiking. Along the way hikers will pass by red cedar trees planted in the 1980’s and weave through a beautiful restored tallgrass prairie. Most of the trails in Mines of Spain can be connected for those looking for a longer hike. This trail is dog friendly, but you furry friend must be kept on leash. Watch out for poison ivy and if you are hiking in the summer you are going to want to make sure you have bug spray, mosquitos can be relentless. In the winter, Mines of Spain is great choice for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing and is favorite for bird watchers year-round. A heads up, Mines of Spain does NOT have a campground.
