Carroll Rim Trail is an easy kid friendly day hike in John Day Fossil Beds National Monument that gives hikers wonderful views of the Painted Hills. This trail is dog friendly, but your furry friends must be kept on leash. The monument says "this trail climbs to a panoramic overlook of the Painted Hills and a view east toward the Sutton Mountain Wilderness Study Area. The trail has over 400 feet of elevation gain. There is a small parking area at the trailhead. More parking is available at the Painted Hills Overlook." This hike is located in the monument Painted Hills Unit. There is camping available in John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.
