Bottomland Trail is an easy hike in Big Oak Tree State Park Missouri that features wonderful scenery. This trail has red blazes and is great for dogs, so long as Fido is on leash. The Bottomland Trail is recognized as a National Natural Landmark. This trail takes hikers through old-growth that once dominated the banks of the Mississippi River. The trail weaves through towering bald cypress, overcup oak, pumpkin ash and many swamps species including some of Missouri’s tallest trees. This hike also offers tremendous bird watching opportunities.
