Activities & Features
Amazing wildlife and bird viewing along this 8-mile jaunt in Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge near Roswell New Mexico. Don't forget to bring your bike! The eight-mile Wildlife Drive provides an excellent way to connect with nature. We've always had better luck viewing wildlife from the seat of a bike or on foot, but you can drive this route and most do just that. If you choose to walk or bike remember to be mindful of cars. Keep an eye peeled for amazing wildlife and birding opportunities and of course Bitter Lake’s famous dragonflies are sure to be observed. There is no camping available in the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1937 to protect migratory bird species such as the Sandhill Crane.
