Mill Trail is a very easy hike in Battle of Athens State Park in Missouri that features incredible history. This trail may be short, but what it lacks in distance it makes up for in scenery and history. Hikers can expect a close-up view of the mill foundation and the Des Moines River. The portion of the trail that follows the Des Moines River is prime bald eagle habitat and both mature and fledgling eagles are often viewed from October through March. This trail has blue blazes and is great for dogs, so long as they are on leash. Camping is available nearby.

The Battle of Athens took place on August 5th, 1861. The Union victory is the most northerly battle fought west of Mississippi. The Sac and Fox tribes lived in the area in the early part of the 19th century.
