Appalachian Trail Section in Bear Mountain State Park is a moderate and historic hike. Keep an eye peeled for wildlife including abundant songbirds and game such as white-tailed deer. Bear Mountain also makes a great choice for winter recreation, its trails offer wonderful cross country skiing and snowshoeing. This trail is family and dog friendly, but your furry kids must be on leash.

History

During the American Revolution the area that would become Bear Mountain State Park saw several battles and skirmishes. The British viewed controlling the Hudson River as pivotal to their success.
