1779 Trail is a moderate hiking trail in Bear Mountain State Park near New York City. This historic trail travels in both Harriman and Bear Mountain Parks. Make sure to listen for songbirds and watch for wildlife! Bear Mountain also makes a great choice for winter recreation, its trails offer wonderful cross country skiing and snowshoeing. This trail is family and dog friendly, but your furry kids must be on leash.

History

The 1779 Trail follows in the bootprings of Brigadier General Anthony Wayne’s army in its battle with British fortifications at Stony Point during the American Revolutionary War.
