How to tie the Mooring Hitch Knot

Knot Tying Guide and How-to

The Mooring Hitch is similar to a slippery half hitch, but is slightly stronger. Used whenever a quick-release loop or attachment is desired (such as when tying livestock to a hitching post).

Wrap the rope around the post and form a loop with the bitter end. Make a loop with the working end and bring through the loop you just created. Take the remaining length of the bitter end and double over (similar to a slippery hitch), bringing it through the loop last loop you made.

Pull the standing end to tighten. You may need to take some time to dress the knot as it has potential to become messy. To release, simply pull the bitter end!
