How to collect water in a “solar still”

Survival Skills

A simple yet highly effective method of collecting water using the sun's energy.

Find a damp area of ground, such as near a streambed or in a swampy area. The more sun it gets the bettter.

Dig a pit roughly 18" deep and wide (or to fit the size of your sheet material).

Place a container in the middle of the hole.

Cover your hole with plastic sheeting or similar material. It must allow water to condense on it.

Place a small rock on top of the plastic sheeting material so that it hangs just above your water container.

Water from the ground will evaporate andcondense on the plastic and travel down the plastic sheeting, ultimately dripping into your container.
