Dusky Grouse Facts
Dusky Grouse are the third largest grouse species in North America. They used to be considered the same species as the Sooty Grouse. Both were called Blue Grouse. They differ from other bird species in that the number of tail feathers is not consistent from bird to bird. It can vary from 15 to more than 20. They do not migrate and are permanent residents to the Rocky Mountains.
