Body recovered in Grand Canyon NP under unusual circumstances

GRAND CANYON, AZ - The National Park Service has reported that on Sunday evening, February 21, a call was received by the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center regarding a car found below the rim, near Lipan Point on Desert View Drive.  

The next day an NPS helicopter crew located a vehicle “approximately 1000 feet below the rim and a body about 200 feet below the rim.”  On Tuesday, Rangers hiked down and recovered the body of a California male, no further details have been released at this time.  

An investigation is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
